Privacy policy

This policy covers the macOS applications MacDiskCleanUp and MacDiskCleanUp Insights, and this website at macdiskcleanup.a4teams.com. Both apps are published by A4TEAM INC, a Delaware corporation ("we", "us").

1. What the apps collect

Nothing. Neither app collects, stores or transmits personal data.

Specifically, and to leave no room for interpretation:

2. What the apps read on your Mac

Reading is not collecting. To do their job the apps read parts of your disk, and everything read stays on your Mac, in memory or in the app's own local storage.

EditionWhat it readsWhat it writes
MacDiskCleanUp Insights
(Mac App Store)
Only the folders you explicitly choose in the macOS folder picker. It runs in the App Sandbox with read-only access and cannot reach anything else. Its own preferences and the bookmarks that let your chosen folders stay chosen across launches. It never modifies a file of yours — it has no permission to, and no code that would.
MacDiskCleanUp
(direct download)
Your disk, in order to measure it. Reading caches, logs and application support files requires the Full Disk Access permission, which you grant in System Settings and can revoke at any time. Its own preferences, its scan results, and a local ledger of what it removed so that removals can be undone. Files you select for removal are moved or deleted as you confirm.

All of this lives on your Mac. Uninstalling an app removes its own stored data with it.

3. This website

The site is static pages. It sets no cookies, embeds no third-party scripts, loads no third-party fonts or trackers, and asks for nothing.

The web server that serves it keeps standard access logs, as web servers do. Each entry may contain your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the HTTP status, your browser's user-agent string, and the referring page if your browser sent one.

4. Email you send us

If you email support@a4teams.com, we necessarily receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it to answer you and keep the correspondence for as long as it is useful for support history, and no longer. It is never added to a mailing list and never passed to anyone else.

5. Purchases

Purchasing is not open at the time of writing, and no page on this site collects payment details.

When it opens, payments will be handled by a third-party payment processor and by Apple for App Store purchases. Card details are entered on the processor's systems and never reach ours or this website; we receive only what is needed to issue and support a licence. This section will name the processor and link its own privacy policy before any payment is accepted.

6. Children

These are disk utilities for macOS with no social features and no data collection. They are not directed at children, and since nothing is collected from anyone, nothing is collected from children either.

7. Your rights

Data protection law — including the GDPR and the UK GDPR where they apply to you — gives you rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and portability over personal data held about you.

In practice we hold almost nothing to exercise them against: server logs tied to an IP address, and any email you have sent us. Write to support@a4teams.com and we will act on a request within 30 days. If you believe we have handled your data badly, you may also complain to your local data protection authority.

8. Security

The site is served over HTTPS. The apps hold no credentials and transmit nothing, so there is no account of yours for anyone to breach — the strongest security property available here, and the reason the design collects nothing in the first place.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that would make an app start collecting something it does not collect today would be announced on this site before it shipped, not discovered afterwards.
