The measurement is free and stays free. Pro pays for the five things that have to be maintained release after release — every macOS update moves paths, and every new developer tool invents a cache directory that has to be recognised before it can be cleaned safely.

A licence key, emailed to you. Not an account, not a subscription with a login. The key is a signed file of about two hundred characters that you paste into Settings once.
It is checked on your Mac, by the app, against a public key built into it. There is no server to ask, which is why Pro keeps working on a Mac that is offline, on a plane, behind a corporate proxy, or on the day this website is down. It also means no licence check can ever lock you out of a cleanup that is already running.
The key is not tied to a machine. Replace your Mac, migrate, run it on the laptop and the desktop you both own — the same key works. A cleanup utility that argues about hardware the week you have restored from a backup has picked the worst possible moment to do it.
Every major version, for as long as the app is maintained. Not "until we decide to call the next release version 2 and charge again". If the app is ever discontinued, the last version you have keeps working: it needs nothing from us to run.
It drops to the free tier. That is the whole of it, and it is worth being specific because this is where cleaning apps usually behave badly:
Buying a new annual key turns Pro straight back on: paste it into Settings and every Pro feature is available again, with nothing to reinstall and nothing to re-scan.
Thirty days, no argument and no questionnaire — see Refunds, which is also honest about the fact that an offline licence check has no way to switch a refunded key off. Being refunded ends the right to use Pro; enforcing that is not something an app with no licence server can do, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.
MacDiskCleanUp Insights is free, and has no in-app purchases and no subscription. It measures folders you pick and removes nothing, because the App Store sandbox forbids reading another application's files — which is most of what this app does. It is a way to see the analysis, not a cheaper version of the cleaner.
